Oreo cookies were first introduced by the National Biscuit Company (Nabisco) in the USA in 1912, and quickly became the world's best-selling cookie, a title they have held for over a century. The distinctive black and white design, the ritual of twisting, licking, and dunking, and the deeply satisfying chocolate-cream flavour combination made Oreos a universal beloved treat.

The Oreo frappe emerged as a natural fusion of the American blended frappe trend (popularised in the 1990s) and the universal appeal of Oreo cookies. Crushed or blended Oreos create a cookies-and-cream effect in a cold, icy drink, simultaneously a dessert and a beverage, that became a fixture on cafe menus globally.
