Early Grey
Bergamot-kissed black tea with a story
Sm $6.00 / Lg $7.00
The Story
Earl Grey is one of the world's most recognised flavoured teas — black tea scented with oil of bergamot, a fragrant citrus fruit grown primarily in Calabria, Italy. The tea is named after Charles Grey, 2nd Earl Grey and British Prime Minister from 1830 to 1834. Legend claims the blend was gifted to Lord Grey by a Chinese mandarin whose life was saved by a Grey family member, though this story is likely apocryphal.
Bergamot orange is a hybrid citrus — believed to be a cross between a sour orange and a lemon or citron — and its essential oil is extracted from the rind. The floral, aromatic citrus notes it imparts to black tea create a distinctive flavour profile unlike any other tea variety, both refreshing and complex.
At Cappadocia, our Earl Grey is brewed fresh in a pot — the bergamot aroma rising with the steam offers an aromatic experience that complements our Mediterranean and Turkish menu beautifully, as citrus has always played an important role in the flavours of both cultures.
